Edgemont Park, created from farm land, started as a golf course associated with the upscale Erwin Park development in Montclair. Many New York City business leaders moved to Montclair when trains made commuting relatively convenient. The World War I memorial, built in 1923, was designed by Raymond Hood, with a sculpture of Winged Victory created by Charles Keck. Hood designed the McGraw Hill and GE / RCA buildings in New York.
